Ábel Németh’s Le nature morte opened today at Kiss Kunszt Gallery

Kiss Kunszt Gallery opened a new exhibition today featuring the latest works of visual artist Ábel Németh. The solo show, titled Le nature morte, will be on view through October 4.

Gallery director Szilvia Kiss said in her welcome speech that she first met Németh as a visitor to the gallery, later discovering that he was also a painter. “I liked his works so much that we invited him to hold a solo exhibition here,” she said.

Curator and art historian Blanka Bán described the collection as “exciting and diverse,” adding that the title Le nature morte — literally “dead nature” — has long been used for still life painting but takes on new meaning in Németh’s hands. “This exhibition shows that still life is not about decay but about presence — not a silent mass of objects, but a symphony of life,” she said.

The exhibition reinterprets the tradition of still life painting, presenting everyday objects such as soda cans, chocolate bars, cigarettes and houseplants as cultural symbols and reflections of postmodern life and consumer culture.

Németh draws inspiration from ancient frescoes as well as artists including Edward Hopper, David Hockney and Andy Warhol. His hand-painted, textured surfaces transform mass-produced goods into unique, thought-provoking compositions.
