Laura Medcalf’s “Metamorphosis” exhibition open at Kiss Kunszt Gallery in Szeged

A new solo exhibition by visual artist Laura Medcalf opened Thursday at the Kiss Kunszt Gallery in Szeged, showcasing works that blend natural processes with human creativity to explore themes of transformation and impermanence.

Titled Metamorphosis, the show is Medcalf’s first solo exhibition in Szeged. It features organic, abstract compositions created using water collected from locations around the world, including Italy’s Puglia region, Thailand, Spain’s Ibiza, and Hungary’s own Tisza River.

Medcalf’s process involves using mineral crystals that set and take form under sunlight, creating delicate, unrepeatable patterns that highlight the interplay between human intention and natural forces.

The artist’s works aim to capture fleeting moments and transform them into timeless images, reflecting on the deep connection between humans and their environment. The exhibition also explores how even the smallest element – like a single drop of water – can hold vast creative potential, mirroring the persistence and subtle power of nature itself.

The exhibition was officially opened by art historian Blanka Bán, the curator of the exhibit, who emphasized the unique technique used in the works.

Metamorphosis runs through August 9 at Kiss Kunszt Gallery.
