OrganPoint Festival returns to Szeged Dóm and other Hungarian venues in August

The OrgonaPont (OrganPoint) series will return this August with concerts at the Szeged Dóm and other churches across Hungary, Filharmónia Magyarország, the state-supported concert presenter, informed Szegedify.

The long-running summer festival invites locals and visitors to step into cool church interiors on warm evenings to enjoy live organ music, often accompanied by instrumentalists, singers, or chamber ensembles. Organists will perform in venues equipped with suitable instruments, providing audiences with an accessible and high-quality musical experience.

Unlike traditional organ recitals focused solely on canonical repertoire, OrgonaPont concerts often blend genres. Programs feature jazz-influenced melodies, folk tunes, and chamber music rarely heard in sacred spaces.

This year’s lineup includes Baroque favorites, lesser-known Romantic works, folk musician István Pál “Szalonna,” acclaimed soprano Erika Miklósa, jazz-inspired performances by Thomas Greif, accordion music, trumpet and violin features, and intimate ensemble pieces.

Szabolcs Szamosi, managing director of Filharmónia Magyarország and an organist himself, said he has performed in OrgonaPont concerts for years and enjoys meeting audiences in this relaxed setting. He added that the organization is proud to offer enriching musical experiences not only during the regular concert season but also while people are on holiday.
