The Hungarian National Dance Ensemble will perform its full-evening dance drama The Faithless Wife at the Szeged National Theater on Oct. 22, the institution announced in a press release. Directed by Kossuth Prize winners Zoltán Zsuráfszky and Zsuzsa Zs. Vincze, the production stages a “crime story” inspired by one of Hungary’s most treasured folk ballads.

The work takes as its starting point Barcsai’s Lover, a classic Székely ballad, and tells of a wife who betrays her husband and faces terrible punishment. The drama not only traces the unfolding of events but also reflects on deeper causes, while exploring timeless themes of fidelity, love, and revenge.

The staging combines monumental sets by Kázmér Tóth with stylized folk costumes by Zs. Vincze. The musical program features arrangements by István Gázsa Papp and Sándor D. Tóth, as well as an original choral work by Benjamin Eredics for the Hungarian National Male Choir. Two choral works by composer Zoltán Kodály will also be performed.

Tickets and additional information are available on the Szeged National Theater’s website.
