Own a piece of Hungarian theater history

Szeged National Theater offers limited-edition keepsakes made from its 142-year-old main stage, supporting a new performance by a young artist.

The theater announced in a press release that, on the occasion of its 142nd anniversary, the Szeged National Theater is offering a rare piece of theatrical history: 100 numbered keepsakes crafted from the original wooden planks of the main stage, which were replaced during recent renovations. These limited-edition creations, named színDARAB (literally “theater piece”), will soon be available for purchase at the Regional Arts Center (REÖK), presented in decorative cases made from the old Bayreuth-style theater curtain. Proceeds will enable a young artist to produce their own performance, with színDARAB owners enjoying the premiere – allowing them not only to support the creation of a new show but also to experience a unique theater event firsthand.

The planks of the Szeged National Theater’s main stage are more than just physical objects – they are historical witnesses. For decades, they carried the footsteps of performers, the passion, the applause, the drama, and the laughter – capturing a slice of Hungarian theater history. The keepsakes were thoughtfully designed in collaboration with Kázmér Tóth, Managing Director of Scabello Bt.

Funds raised from the sale will support an internal grant for members of the Szeged National Theater company, inviting young artists to propose new solo play ideas. The aim is to create a new story rooted in the legacy of the old stage planks.

Further details will soon be available on the online platforms of the 142-year-old Szeged National Theater.
