The Móra Ferenc Museum announced in a press release that the final section of its large-scale Ice Age exhibition is now open to the public, featuring life-size animal reconstructions and newly expanded gallery space.
The museum said staff worked at “full speed” in recent days to install skeleton reconstructions and sound-producing animal models that arrived from China on July 7. Among the highlights are a massive mammoth skeleton reconstruction, original mammoth bones and tusks, and animated models of a cave bear, cave lion, and baby mammoth.
The new section adds a large gallery in the museum’s grand hall, where mammoths and the woolly rhinoceros take center stage. In total, the exhibition now spans more than 1,000 square meters and includes original fossils, skeletons, and preserved specimens.
Visitors can also explore an interactive room with educational activities for children and adults, and a chamber cooled to simulate extreme Ice Age conditions, where they can touch real ice embedded in a stylized block – these were opened during the Night of Museums.
The exhibition’s earlier phase, which opened in May, focuses on Ice Age humans, with displays of flint tools, burial reconstructions, and insights into the Altamira Cave paintings.

With the completion of the final section, the museum is launching extended summer hours. Through the end of August, the Móra Ferenc Museum, the Black House, and the Castle Museum will stay open until 8 p.m. on Saturdays. Free guided tours of the Ice Age exhibition will be offered in Hungarian on Saturdays at 4 and 6 p.m., and on Sundays at 11 a.m.
