Seating area renovated at Újszeged Open-Air Stage

The seating area at the Újszeged Open-Air Stage, the smaller venue of the Szeged Open-Air Festival, which is celebrating its 95th anniversary this year, has been renovated, the festival organizers told the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) on Thursday.

According to the statement, the venue’s seating has been replaced with UV-resistant chairs featuring mid-height backrests and a contoured design.

Funding for the renovation, totaling 45 million forints, was provided by the City of Szeged.

During the replacement process, sustainability and cost efficiency were key considerations. The new, hot-dip galvanized, corrosion-resistant metal substructure used to secure the seats was built on the existing concrete blocks that previously supported the dismantled wooden benches.

A total of 1,159 base plates and seats were installed on approximately 800 meters (2,625 feet) of metal sections and connecting brackets. The layout and capacity of the seating area remain unchanged.

The seating area can still be expanded with additional temporary chairs.

This summer, the Újszeged Open-Air Stage will host a range of concerts — featuring Péter Geszti, Honeybeast, Charlie Horváth, an ABBA tribute show, an evening performance by Petra Gubik, and a Dixieland gala — as well as guest theater productions including Oscar, The Csárdás Princess (Csárdáskirálynő), You Rang, M’Lord?, Heatwave (Hőhullám), and An American Comedy (Amerikai komédia).
