Móra Museum’s Ice Age exhibit draws 30,000th visitor
The Ice Age exhibit at the Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged welcomed its 30,000th visitor on Wednesday, marking a major milestone for one of Hungary’s most popular summer attractions.
Szabolcs Kocsis of Győr, visiting with his wife and two young daughters, was the lucky milestone guest. The family was greeted by museum director Ottó Fogas, who presented them with an Ice Age-themed gift package.

The exhibit, which has drawn large crowds since opening in May, features life-sized, animated reconstructions of mammoths and cave bears, as well as interactive displays aimed at children and families.
“If we’re seeing this many people on an ordinary Wednesday, it speaks volumes,” Fogas said. “It’s safe to call this a major success. Last weekend alone, we had more than 3,000 visitors — numbers that would impress even a large Budapest institution.”
The exhibition is split into two sections: Ice Age Humans, which opened in May, and The Mysterious Ice Age, launched during Hungary’s Night of Museums in June. In July, additional animal reconstructions arrived from East Asia, including a moving mammoth placed outside the museum.

According to Fogas, the exhibit was designed with multiple generations in mind.
“Younger kids love the fantasy elements, older children are drawn to the animated animals, and adults are most interested in the scientific content,” he said. “The exhibit was intentionally built on three levels to offer something for everyone.”
The Ice Age exhibit will remain open through Jan. 10, 2026.
