Final weekend of the Szeged Wine Festival kicks off — here’s what not to miss

As the 2025 Szeged Wine Festival heads into its final weekend, the city comes alive with some of the most anticipated events of the 11-day celebration.

The Dóm Téri Kavalkád starts today, bringing big-stage concerts to Dóm Square and building up to Saturday night’s fireworks — always a festival favorite. Launching alongside it is Civilek utcája, where local NGOs introduce themselves through hands-on activities and personal conversations.

On Saturday morning, the beloved Szeged Bridge Fair opens with the traditional stilt walker parade, crossing Belvárosi Bridge into Újszeged and back — a festive signal that the city's largest craft market is officially underway. The fair features around 250 vendors and cultural displays across Belvárosi Bridge, Híd Street, and Oskola Street.

Also on Saturday, the Day of Szeged Dragon Boat Race runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Races can be viewed from Belvárosi Bridge, Huszár Mátyás Quay, or the Partfürdő boat dock — where entry is free during the event.

Meanwhile, the main festival squares — Széchenyi, Klauzál, and Dugonics — remain lively with wine tastings, food vendors, live music, and artisanal goods throughout the weekend. Nostalgia trams are also back in service, adding a bit of vintage charm to your travels.

Families can enjoy International Children’s Day programs, held at the Kövér Béla Puppet Theater on Friday and Saturday, and at Partfürdő on Sunday.

Traffic changes and public transport updates

Several downtown streets will be closed to all traffic — including bicycles and e-scooters — over the weekend due to festival events:

  • Oskola Street and Híd Street (between Belvárosi Bridge and Széchenyi Square) will be closed

  • Belvárosi Bridge will be fully closed from Saturday through Sunday

Public transport that normally crosses Belvárosi Bridge will be rerouted to Bertalan Bridge, with adjusted schedules during the weekend.

Getting around the city after hours? Take advantage of the “one ticket” system: any single public transport ticket validated after 6 PM is valid for unlimited travel across Szeged for the rest of the evening.

It’s the last chance to catch the full atmosphere — and perhaps a final glass of wine — before the city says farewell to one of Hungary’s most cherished festivals.
