Daily program announced for 2025 Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival

The 9th annual Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival will take place May 27–31 at Belvárosi Cinema in Szeged, featuring an expanded competition lineup and a wide range of professional and public events celebrating the art of cinematography, the organizers announced in their latest press release.

Named in honor of the Oscar-winning Hungarian-American cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, the festival opens this year with Small Things Like These, an Irish drama starring Cillian Murphy, which has not yet been released in Hungary.

In addition to showcasing this year’s competition films — including features, documentaries, shorts, and for the first time, music videos — the festival offers a full off-program. These include daily children's screenings under the KIDsFEST banner, as well as an exhibition, workshops, and discussions with filmmakers.

Ahead of the main event, an outdoor screening of the iconic Hungarian rock opera Stephen, the King (István, a király) will be held on May 22. Also screening in Szeged’s Dugonics Square is Love Till First Blood, featuring the cinematography of Tamás Andor. As part of a special retrospective, Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Inception will also return to the big screen.

The Hungarian Cinematographers’ Week section will highlight standout recent domestic productions such as Gone RunningBut What About Tomi?Vulture's Wake, and last year’s opener, January 2.

Panels will explore women’s perspectives in the film industry as well as coming-of-age themes present in this year’s program. Post-screening Q&As will offer audiences opportunities to engage directly with filmmakers and cinematographers.

Among the off-program highlights is a pre-premiere screening of Random, directed by András Salamon. The film’s cinematographer, Balázs Béla Award-winner Gábor Szabó, serves as this year’s jury president. A post-screening discussion will include Szabó, director Pál Sándor, and cinematographer Tamás Andor.
