Tesla opens new Supercharger station in Szeged; city now has two fast-charge sites
SZEGED, Hungary — As reported by multiple media outlets, Tesla has opened a new high-speed Supercharger station in Szeged, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure and making the city one of the first regional hubs outside Budapest with more than one such facility.
The station, located in the parking lot of the Tesco Extra store on Rókusi Boulevard — now operating as part of the retail complex renamed Shopland Park — began operating in late January and was officially inaugurated Feb. 13 with a public event featuring test drives and demonstrations of the eight new charging stalls.
Each of the eight V4-generation chargers at the site can deliver up to 250 kilowatts of power, allowing compatible electric vehicles to gain approximately 275 kilometers (about 171 miles) of range in roughly 15 minutes. Unlike earlier iterations of Tesla Superchargers, the new stalls feature longer cables and broader compatibility, enabling non-Tesla vehicles equipped with CCS connectors to use the station.
The new facility adds to Szeged’s existing Supercharger at the Auchan shopping center and is expected to ease congestion at the older site, which operates with lower-power chargers.
Tesla selected the Rókusi Boulevard location through its “Voting Winner” program, which incorporates customer input into site decisions. Organizers marked the opening with a public event that gave residents an opportunity to test drive Tesla vehicles.
With the new installation, Tesla’s network in Hungary now includes more than 140 charging points across 13 locations nationwide, reflecting continued growth in fast-charging infrastructure as electric vehicle adoption rises.
