Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival unveils competition lineup for 10th edition in Szeged

SZEGED, Hungary — Organizers have unveiled the official competition lineup for the 10th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival, a cinematography-focused film festival held annually in Szeged, with selected films competing for the Zsigmond Vilmos Award for Best Cinematography.

A professional pre-jury selected the finalists from more than 400 submissions received across four main categories, marking a record number of entries for the anniversary edition of the festival.

This year’s competition program includes nine feature films, five documentaries, 13 short films, and 14 music videos. In addition, 10 films will be screened as part of the Hungarian Cinematographers’ Week competition section, showcasing recent highlights from Hungary’s film industry.

Among the feature films competing is Árva, Hungary’s submission for the Academy Awards, as well as Csendes barát, which has screened at several international festivals, including the Venice Film Festival. The lineup also features international productions such as the Canadian-Hungarian film Blue Heron, as well as short films that premiered in Cannes (Withered Blossoms, Australia) and Singapore (Before the Sea Forgets).

The music video competition section, introduced last year, returns with entries from prominent Hungarian artists, including Pogány Induló, Esti Kornél, Mehringer, Beton.Hofi and 6363.

The Hungarian Cinematographers’ Week program includes titles such as Minden Csillag, Pipás, and Itt érzem magam otthon, offering audiences a selection of notable Hungarian productions from the past three years.

Beyond the competition screenings, organizers said the 10th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival will also feature Academy Award-winning classics, special showcase screenings, new grant announcements, masterclasses, and audience meet-and-greet events.

The 10th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival will take place May 13–17 at the Belvárosi Cinema in downtown Szeged.

The full competition lineup is available on the festival’s official website.
