University of Szeged to host more than 400 events for Researchers’ Night

Science will take the spotlight in Szeged next week as the University of Szeged prepares to host more than 400 events during Researchers’ Night, a Europe-wide celebration of science.

The two-day program, set for Sept. 26–27, will feature events across all 12 university faculties, ranging from lab tours and lectures to interactive workshops, experiments, and science quests. The József Attila Study and Information Center, along with the Klebelsberg Library and Archives, will also host thematic programs.

Organizers say the event is designed to bring research closer to the public and to inspire young people to consider careers in science. A printed program booklet is available in university buildings and in schools across Csongrád-Csanád County, while a downloadable version can be found on the university’s website. The booklet includes an English-language section highlighting programs for international visitors.

Programs offered for an international audience include the Katalin Karikó exhibition in the Study and Information Center, where visitors who complete a science quiz can win an SZTE gift package. At the Institute of Biology, the exhibition Findings from the Lab – mRNA / Karikó / HPIC will trace Karikó’s career and groundbreaking mRNA research, while another showcase will explore experiments with fruit flies that traveled into space and Hungary’s HUNOR astronaut program.

In addition to science-focused activities, the program will feature cultural and lifestyle events. The Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts will host a session spotlighting woodwind instruments, and an eco-friendly clothes exchange will take place at the Study and Information Center.

Some programs require advance registration. Registration links and the downloadable program booklet can be found on the University of Szeged website.
