29th Autumn Cultural Festival opens at University of Szeged with photo exhibition and light show
The 29th Autumn Cultural Festival of the University of Szeged opened Wednesday evening with a nature-themed photo exhibition by multiple award-winning local photojournalist János Török.
The ceremony, held in the Aula of the Rector’s Office, departed from tradition with a series of staged surprises. Actress Kata Csorba of the Szeged National Theater performed a song from The Jungle Book musical from the balcony, while paper hearts fell onto the audience. Guests also found the photographs of the exhibition covered, which were later revealed as part of the program.
Festival organizer Gabriella Tajti, head of the University’s Cultural Office, invited participants to stand before a covered work and uncover it themselves. She read aloud three of the photo titles, and those standing before the matching works received a copy as a gift.
János Török’s photo exhibition can be visited until November 7, on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The evening continued outside with the popular light projection – now a tradition – on the facade of the Rector’s Office, accompanied by additional songs from The Jungle Book performed by actors of the Szeged National Theater.
Running for two months, the Autumn Cultural Festival presents 300 events at 70 locations across the city, including concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural programs organized by the University of Szeged, in partnership with other local institutions. The university has compiled a list of programs suitable for non-Hungarian speakers – for more information visit SZTE’s English-language site.
