Inclusive playground spinner opens at Roosevelt Square in Szeged

A new inclusive playground spinner designed for children with and without mobility impairments has opened at Roosevelt Square in Szeged.

The new equipment was unveiled Wednesday as part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Szeged and ContiTech Rubber Industrial Kft. The Szeged-based company, which traces its history to 1966 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, contributed 2.5 million forints toward the project.

Deputy Mayor for Urban Development Sándor Nagy said the spinner allows children with mobility impairments to play alongside children without such limitations. The project cost nearly 2.7 million forints in total.

Nagy said Roosevelt Square is not the only one of Szeged’s 133 playgrounds to feature equipment that can be used by children with mobility impairments.

ContiTech has previously supported other projects in Szeged, including the installation of a bicycle repair station and an audible pedestrian crossing.

Sándor Horváth, director of ContiTech’s local plant, and Ákos Kalmár, the company’s HR manager, said the new playground equipment carries an important social and community message by creating opportunities for children with mobility impairments to play together with other children.

Roosevelt Square has also received recognition for its earlier redevelopment. The renovation was honored with the János Hild Award.
