Szeged museum extends Ice Age exhibition through March 2026

The Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged has extended its popular Ice Age exhibition through March 8, 2026, following sustained public interest since its opening.

One of the exhibition’s most recognizable features is a life-size mammoth reconstruction placed in front of the museum. The moving, sound-emitting installation has become a major draw for visitors and now has an official name: Bolyhoska (meaning “Fluffy” in Hungarian). The name was selected through a public vote and announced on Dec. 22.

According to the museum, the name Bolyhoska received more than 1,000 votes out of approximately 1,700 cast in total. The naming process involved collecting suggestions from the public, shortlisting entries by a jury and then holding a final vote.

The Ice Age exhibition has attracted steady crowds in recent months. On weekdays, school and kindergarten groups account for most visitors, while families dominate attendance on weekends. The museum said interest remains high in its free guided tours offered on weekends.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until March 8, 2026.
