7th International Harp Competition coming to Szeged this November

The 7th International Harp Competition will be held November 19–23, 2025, at Szeged’s Reök Palace, one of Hungary’s most notable Art Nouveau landmarks.

Founded in 2007 by harpist Natalia Gorbunova, the competition is held every three years and has become a significant gathering point for young harpists worldwide.

This year’s edition commemorates the 150th anniversaries of composers Henriette Renié and Maurice Ravel, and the 50th anniversary of the death of Marcel Grandjany. Works by these composers, as well as contemporary Hungarian pieces, will feature in the required repertoire.

The competition has three age-based categories: U14, U19, and U25. The youngest contestants will present a short free program including Ákos Zarándy’s Leaves (2023), while the oldest category concludes with Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro, performed with the Elara Quartet and musicians of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra.

Prizes range from €200 to €2,500 across the three categories. Applications are open until September 15, with notifications of acceptance sent by September 29. Participation fees must be paid by October 6.

Instruments for practice and performance will be provided by Camac Harps, the competition’s principal sponsor.

More information, including the full repertoire and application details, is available on the competition’s official website at camac-harps.com.
