The Ferris wheel is back on Dóm Square, marking the start of the holiday season in Szeged

The giant Ferris wheel on Dóm Square started operating on November 1, once again offering a festive view of downtown Szeged from 50 meters above the city.

The wheel has the same dimensions as last year’s – 50 meters tall, with 30 enclosed cabins that can accommodate up to 180 passengers at a time. Each cabin holds up to six people, and one ride includes three full turns. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ticket prices have remained unchanged: admission is 3,000 forints for adults and 2,500 forints for children between 3 and 14 years. The Ferris wheel operates Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

This year’s Szeged Christmas Market will open on November 28 and run through December 24, featuring more lights, attractions, and seasonal specialties than ever before. More than 25,000 LED lights will illuminate Dóm Square – triple last year’s number – and a larger Christmas tree, nearly 11 meters tall, will serve as the centerpiece.

Among the new attractions is Hungary’s largest nostalgia carousel, a two-level, 15-meter-wide ride that rises 12 meters at its highest point and can even accommodate adults. Visitors can also pick up new red mugs decorated with the silhouette of the Votive Church and the inscription “Szeged Advent,” available at the mulled wine stands.

As in previous years, the market program will feature fire juggler performances on four weekends and an ice sculpting show, adding to the festive atmosphere of the city’s famous square.
