Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra to perform in Szeged this December

The renowned Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra from Switzerland will perform in Szeged as part of its Hungarian tour this winter; the ensemble’s four-city series, organized by Filharmonia Hungary, will take place between December 2 and 6, 2025, and will include concerts in Pécs, Szeged, Debrecen and Budapest, Filharmonia Hungary informed Szegedify in a press release.

The Verbier Festival, based in Switzerland, is among the most prestigious international events in classical music, bringing together leading artists from around the world. Although the orchestra’s lineup changes from project to project, its quality remains constant—the level of artistry always speaks for itself.

The Szeged concert will be conducted by Hungarian-born maestro Gábor Takács-Nagy, who has led the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra for many years. A former violinist and accomplished chamber musician, Takács-Nagy turned to conducting in 2002 and soon became the ensemble’s leader. His interpretations of the great Viennese masters, including Beethoven, have earned him international acclaim.

The evening’s program will feature Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major and Symphony No. 7 in A major. The piano soloist will be acclaimed Hungarian pianist Dezső Ránki.

According to Filharmonia Hungary Managing Director Szabolcs Szamosi, the tour demonstrates the strong international presence of Hungarian musicians and the high standards of Hungary’s classical music scene. He added that Beethoven’s music “continues to touch people’s emotions, offering an uplifting message of optimism that celebrates the meaning of struggle and the triumph of hope.”
