The Hungarian film The Riddle Pact received three honors at the Vegas Movie Awards, the filmmakers told the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) on Sunday, a day after the ceremony.

Directed by Zsolt Pozsgai, the historical drama – originally titled Királytalálkozó – won Best Inspirational Film. Pozsgai was named Best Director, and the cast received the Best Ensemble award. Cast members include Attila Dolhai, Nelly Fésűs, Samu Puskás, Ramóna Gecse, Rodrigo Crespo, Ignác Farkas, Csaba Pindroch, and István Verebes, among others.

Set in 14th-century Central Europe, The Riddle Pact dramatizes the 1335 secret meeting between Hungarian King Charles Robert and the kings of Bohemia and Poland. The summit led to a historic alliance and ushered in a period of peace and economic growth. Rather than focusing solely on the political pact, the film highlights the personal tensions and emotional reckonings needed to forge the agreement.

The festival jury praised the production for its consistent performances, precise direction, and its ability to elevate a regional historical event into a universally engaging story.

Filming took place in 2024 at and around the Eszterházy Palace in Majk, Hungary. According to the filmmakers, costumes were designed with the help of artificial intelligence. Cinematographer Gábor Szabó – who also regularly chairs the jury at the Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival in Szeged – worked with one of the most advanced intelligent cameras available. Réka Epresi-Pálfai served as editor, and Ágnes M. Berecz produced the film through Horatio Film.

Supported by the National Film Institute of Hungary, the production received 353.75 million forints (about $1 million) in funding. It premiered last month at the Uránia National Film Theater in Budapest.

The award ceremony is scheduled for late September in Las Vegas. The filmmakers have been invited to attend and will accept the awards in person.
