IISMA Szeged Indonesian cultural event at SZTE

IISMA students held a successful cultural event at the Rector's Building of the University of Szeged on Friday, October 21, 2022.

IISMA, the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards, is a scholarship scheme of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia that allows undergraduate students to spend one semester at some of the best universities worldwide. The 46 Indonesian students currently studying at the University of Szeged organized the second cultural event of the semester, an event around the theme of heroes.

In her opening speech, Rita Csúri-Magosi, from the International and Public Relations Department of SZTE, described the IISMA scholarship as a great opportunity, both for the Indonesian students to learn about Europe and Hungary, but also for everyone else at SZTE, to learn about Indonesia. She considered the scholarship - now in its second year - a success at the University of Szeged, and highlighted that according to multiple sources, the Indonesian students are the heart of the university's international community.

After the opening speeches, guests could learn about the significance of Indonesian Heroes' Day, and listen to fascinating talks about personal success, motivation, and heroes. Ifan Mahdiyat Sofiana, Dept Head of Information, Social and Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Budapest, held an inspiring and motivating talk about his personal experiences in his career as a diplomat.

In the second part of the event, guests could play fun games, learn about Indonesian money and language, take photos dressed in traditional batik pieces, and taste some of the specialties of Indonesia. Performances included singing and traditional Indonesian dance performed by IISMA students.
